About

Difecta (a portmanteau of ‘diamond’ and ‘superfecta’) is a free online game that allows participants to deploy their skill and knowledge of sports in a competition for bragging rights and small prizes. Based on the Parimutuel bet type, Superfecta, the goal is to correctly predict the top 4 run scoring teams on each day of the season. Points are also tallied to allow season-long competition. Custom leagues can also be created to allow individuals to compete head-to-head against friends.

How to Play

Each day of the season a new game begins. The goal for each participant is to try to select the top 4 run scoring teams for the day. The bases on the homepage represent the participants selections:

  • home plate is where the top scoring team is selected
  • third base is where the second highest scoring team is selected
  • second base is where the third highest scoring team is selected
  • first base is where the fourth highest scoring team is selected

Upon clicking/tapping on a base, the participant is presented with the schedule of games for that day. Select a team by clicking/tapping on a team logo and confirm the selection by clicking/tapping on ‘Choose this team’. Any team can be selected at any base, unless that team has already been selected by the participant (you can only select a team once per day, except in the case of a doubleheader) or that team’s game has already started. A selection can be changed until the team’s game has started.

Tiebreakers

In the event of a tie in runs scored for one of the top 4 places, Difecta will use the following tiebreakers:

  • home runs, if still tied,
  • triples, if still tied,
  • doubles, if still tied,
  • hits, if still tied,
  • walks, if still tied,
  • stolen bases, if still tied,
  • rbi, if still tied,
  • hit by pitch, if still tied,
  • winner picked randomly from tied teams

Tiebreakers are only applied to determine the top 4 finishers (ie, to determine the Difecta order).

Scoring

In addition to picking the correct order for the Difecta, participants can also accumulate points towards monthly and season prizes. Points are awarded for the run scoring total for each team selected as follows:

  • home plate selection: (selected team runs scored + bonus) * 4
  • third base selection: (selected team runs scored + bonus) * 3
  • second base selection: (selected team runs scored + bonus) * 2
  • first base selection: (selected team runs scored + bonus) * 1

The point totals from each base are added to form a point total for the day for each participant. The bonus is awarded by correctly selecting the Difecta winner at that base for that day.

Stat Errors/Corrections

The Difecta game results are based on the final statistics provided on the date the game is played. Games not completed on their start date are not included. If there are stat changes or corrections made by the sports league at a later date, those changes will not change the Difecta game results. All stats are considered final on the date of completion.

Leagues

Players that choose to login to participate in the Difecta game may also create or join a league. Leagues allow a small group of participants to compete head-to-head with friends, in a friendly, easy to view layout.

Prizes

There are 3 prizes available in the Difecta game:

  • Difecta Daily Prize
  • Monthly Point Leaders Prize
  • Season Point Leader Prize

Difecta Daily Prize

One of the benefits of logging in before submitting picks is that you are eligible to win prizes. Correctly picking the top 4 run scoring teams on a day qualifies the winner(s) for the Difecta Daily Prize. The Difecta Daily Prize is posted each day on the homepage of the website. Award Bonuses exist that can increase the total prize for correctly choosing the right teams and winning a Difecta. If there is a tie between more than one player, the prize is split between the winners.

Monthly Point Leaders

For participants that log in, point totals from each of their daily picks are tallied to compete for the monthly prize. Monthly Prizes are awarded for the months of April, May, June, July, August, and September. The top point total for each month is awarded the Monthly Point Leader prize, which is a $50 Amazon Gift Card. Like the Difecta Daily Prize, if there are multiple winners the prize will be split evenly between the winners.

Season Point Leader

In addition to the Difecta Daily Prize and Monthly Point Leaders Prize, there is also a season prize that goes to the participant who accumulates the most number of points over the course of the entire season. The Season Point Leader Prize is a $250 Amazon Gift Card, and like the other prizes, if there is a tie the prize is split evenly between the winners.

Receipt of Prizes

Bonus point prizes are generally awarded the day after they are won. Digital Gift Card prizes will be emailed within 7 days to the email address the user logs in with.

Requirements to Participate

Difecta is a free-to-play game. As such, the requirements are minimal: an internet connected device with a web browser. While an account is not required to play, one is required to get the complete experience, which includes accumulating points day-by-day, appearing on leaderboards, participating in leagues, winning prizes, and more. Free accounts can be established on the Difecta website with an existing Twitter, Google, Apple, Discord, or Metamask account or by using an email address and creating a password directly on the Difecta website (we recommend using an existing account).

Eligibility

Anyone can play. To win prizes, you must be 21 years of age or older and live in the United States or Canada (excluding Ontario and Quebec).
